The George V Dining Room
Ashford Castle has been hosting distinguished guests for almost 800 years – one of the most prominent being the Prince of Wales, who subsequently became George V of England. In honor of his visit in 1905, the Guinness family built a special dining room that still bears his name proudly to this day.
The graceful setting, with rich, paneled walls and twinkling Waterford Crystal chandeliers bestows a grand sense of occasion. Our fine dining restaurant offers an expression of culinary expertise from the estate reflecting Chef Liam Finnegan's flair for excellent produce and perfectly executed plates. Our dishes are complemented by a fine selection of wines from Head Sommelier Paul Fogerty.
The Connaught Room
The Connaught Room is flanked with large windows commanding spectacular views of the castle’s manicured gardens and the magnificent Lough Corrib. The room captivates guests with its inspiring Donegal Crystal chandelier, paneled oak walls and a hand-carved fireplace.
The Connaught Room serves Afternoon Tea, and its menu offers our guests a delightful selection of specialty teas, delicate finger sandwiches with traditional fillings, warm scones and handmade pastries. The Connaught Room is also the venue for our regular wine dinners. Afternoon Tea service is available both to residents staying at Ashford Castle and visitors.
The Drawing Room
As you enter The Drawing Room you’ll immediately be struck by breathtaking views across the manicured lawns and out over the expansive Lough Corrib. The ideal setting for a morning coffee or light lunches from the bar menu, simply sink into comfortable chairs to enjoy fine hospitality in total comfort. Whether you’re enjoying a romantic break or catching up with family and friends, The Drawing Room lends itself perfectly to the occasion.
Cullen's at The Cottage
Nestled in a charming thatched cottage with a rich history as Cong Cinema, Cullens at the Cottage offers a relaxed dining experience. Savor locally-inspired cuisine and the freshest seafood, including our signature Seafood Platter, in a cozy cottage setting. As you enter, the inviting aromas from our rotisserie oven greet you. At the cottage's front, our patio offers a serene setting to enjoy alfresco lunches in the summer, with a view of Ashford Castle. Advance reservations are highly recommended, as this restaurant welcomes both castle guests and residents.
Prince of Wales Bar
Named in honor of the Prince of Wales, who visited the bar in 1905 and later ascended to the throne as George V of England, The Prince of Wales Bar holds a special place in history. Built in the late 1800s, the bar is reminiscent of its captivating past, with its opulent fabrics, fine wood paneling, traditional furnishings and original fireplace creating a warm and welcoming ambience. With a full selection of cocktails, liqueurs and brandies, our experienced bar team also offer private whiskey and gin tasting experiences from 12pm to 5pm in The Prince of Wales Bar or from 6pm to 8pm in The Billiards Room.
The Dungeon
Set on the lower ground floor of Ashford Castle, The Dungeon's bistro-style menu features international and Irish favorites, plant-based dishes and an impressive selection of locally-sourced steaks. Here, the centerpiece is the Josper grill, inspired by South African 'braai' traditions, which infuses our dishes with a smoky, bold flavor. The menu is a celebration of hearty, soul-warming dishes prepared to perfection on the open flames. With an atmosphere steeped in history, a visit to The Dungeon promises a unique, relaxed ambiance.
The Billiards Room
The height of refinement. Retreat to The Billiards Room and enjoy a game of billiards, sink into comfy chairs with a glass of your favourite tipple or relax with a newspaper and catch up on the day's affairs. Open to residents only, the traditional elegance of The Billiards Room, with its grand assortment of antique furniture and furnishings is a most welcome addition to the castle.
The Cigar Terrace
Feel like the king of the castle. On a rooftop corner of the castle, through the sumptuous Billiards Room, discover the Cigar Terrace with fantastic views overlooking the River Cong and beyond. With a feature awning, locally made in the village of Cong, and low glass tables with wrought iron chairs, The Cigar Terrace is a beautifully designed space with flagstone floor in which to relax and enjoy a whiskey, cognac or cigar, or simply to enjoy relaxing in a wonderful setting overlooking the River Cong. Enthusiastic cigar connoisseur's will delight in Mr. Tollman's limited cigar collection including a millennium edition from habanos in a commemorative ceramic jar, Montecristo "A" Cohiba Esplindidos and Partagas Lusitanias; and an impressive selection of beverages are available from The Billiards Room including a selection of finest single pot still whiskey, which is regarded as the real Irish whiskey and is a whiskey style unique to Ireland.
The Wine Cellar
The Wine Cellars at Ashford Castle offer private wine tastings in the secret passageways of the castle, which were unearthed during recent renovations. The old servants' entrance was originally a coal bunker and walkway underneath the castle, where the servants used to come in and get their coal buckets to take up to the rooms. It has now been transformed and the 16th century tunnels provide three unique private spaces with a cosy ambience and soft lighting and using a Coravin system for tasting expensive bottles without having to take the cork out, keeping the wine fresh for longer. The extensive wine list has been carefully selected by our knowledgeable sommelier, where you can sample a fine selection of vintages and a choice of new and old world wines in a remarkable setting.
Stanley's Diner
A beautiful mahogany-and-marble counter bar overlooks an open kitchen for a dynamic and intimate dining experience. Enjoy a sophisticated yet fun ambience bestowed by striking green-and-white fabric wallpaper and rich, wood-paneled walls. A portrait of Elvis Presley by renowned artist, Mr Brainwash, elevates the atmosphere, complimented by a mirrored wall that stretches the width of the room. With only nine leather-and-copper stools, Stanley’s is intimate, no reservations restaurant, showcasing nourishing, family-friendly dining with an Ashford Castle twist.
Squire Danagher's
Experience a unique evening in the original house where ‘The Quiet Man’ was filmed in the 1950s, with traditional Irish entertainment from the period. Recently restored to epitomize a thatched cottage from the era, the authentic Squire Danagher’s Cottage offers guests the chance to immerse themselves in the Irish culture of the time with a private dining menu.
Each of our private dining packages include entertainment. Begin your evening with an accordion player and enjoy a a seanchaí (traditional Gaelic storyteller) after dinner followed by Irish dancing. You'll finish the night with a nightcap by the fire before returning to the castle.
