Cap-Haitien

Cap-Haitien is often referred to as Le Cap, a commune on the north coast of Haiti. It was once a French colony of Saint Domingue named "Cap-Francais" and "Paris of the Antilles." Cap-Haitien was the monarchy’s capital until 1820 when King Henri Christophe’s reign ended and thus moving the capital to Port-au-Prince. Today, Cap-Haitien is a busy port with popular beaches. Visitors can marvel at the French colonial architecture in the downtown area or immerse in the daily hustle of the marketplace. The Cathedral and Grand Palace never fails to impress travelers. Visitors can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sans Souci Palace and the Citadelle Henri Christophe, both built by King Henri Christophe.
