Cayambe

Cayambe is a small town that lies at the foot of the Cayambe volcano in the highlands of Ecuador. Cayambe’s indigenous people are the descendants of the pre-Incan Kayambi people that later was conquered by Incan leader Huayna Capac in the mid-15th century. By the 16th century, Spanish conquistadors took over the region. Presently, visitors can climb the summit of Cayambe Volcano and shop local cheese and flowers at the flower market picked from Cayambe’s vast flower plantation.
