Canada’s Devon Island is the largest uninhabited island on Earth, and the 27th largest island in the world. A third is covered by a large ice cap, and the rest is primarily barren due to the cold temperatures. Muskoxen and lemmings live on the north coast in the Truelove Lowland area, as well as a notable small bird population. The Mars-like terrain has been used as a research ground for NASA and other arctic scientific research.

This abandoned Qikiqtaaluk settlement in Nunavut was first established in 1924 as an outpost to curb foreign whaling, and the ruins of a few buildings remain along with one of the northernmost cemeteries in the world.
