Featured Destinations

Slightly threadbare and charmingly out of date, Montevideo harks back to pre-war days when it was the "Switzerland of South America." Art deco and art nouveau façades reflect this flourishing past, while the impressive Plaza Independencia, with its colonnades and open-air cafés, is a perfect place to savor the present.

Punta del Este

Punta del Este is a beautiful beach resort in Uruguay, perhaps the best known and most fashionable in South America. It spreads along a peninsula that juts out in the Atlantic Ocean with endless beaches of the most varied kinds. Its deep blue ocean, sand dunes, spectacular houses and gardens, good hotel infrastructure, marina and harbour, international airport, museums and art galleries, as well as a great setting to practice yachting, sailing, golf, polo and fishing, make Punta del Este the ideal place for a vacation. The area also boasts sophisticated shops, excellent restaurants, night-clubs and a luxurious casino. Worthwhile day trips include the laid back village of José Ignacio, with beautiful beaches and striking sunsets, La Pedrera with its dramatic seaside cliffs, or Laguna de Rocha, a National Park with abundant wildlife, or even Cabo Polonio, a nostalgic seaside fishing village tucked into the sand dunes along the ocean which can only be reached by horse-carriage or 4WD vehicles.

Carmelo is a laid-back town with cobblestone streets centered on fishing. It situates in southwestern Uruguay straddling the Uruguay River on the west and Arroyo de las Vacas in the South. Carmelo was founded by the Spanish in colonial 16th century. The town proudly birthed Uruguay’s national Hero Jose Gervasio Artigas who reclaimed Uruguay’s independence from the Spanish.

Visitors can cruise down the River Uruguay and relax by the river beach. Visitors can also tour around the notorious prison on Juncal Island, stroll through the Colonia Wineries, and explore ancient ruins and landmarks such as the Calera de Las Huerfanas.

Jose Ignacio

When the waves are high and the sun is out, this sleepy seaside village turns into a surfer's haven. It becomes lively and social while still being tranquil and unchained from the urban life. Its secret beaches and private resorts are perfect to unwind!

The Rocha Department sits on the opposite side of the crescent beach that overlooks the lagoon. Its blue beaches is coated with white foam and the sand is soft and silky almost sifted. During the off season, the undeveloped beaches make for a perfect tranquil getaway – private and your own. As summer approaches, the charming boutique hotels and vacation homes is filled with bohemian travelers who are just as relaxed on the sand as the sea lions that live there.
