Capernaum

Capernaum or "Nahum’s village" is a small fishing town located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The town was established in the 2nd century BC during the Hasmonean period. Biblical events states that Jesus of Nazareth taught at Capernaum’s synagogues. These ancient ruins were discovered in 1838 by American explorer Edward Robinson and have been protected by Franciscan Friars from defacement.

Capernaum captivates its visitors with the ancient Roman ruins and sacred synagogues. Most travelers make their pilgrimage to the open air museum of Capernaum to walk the cobblestone streets and relive historical periods of history.
