Nouakchott is the capital city of Mauritania and one of the largest cities in the Sahara. Attractions in Nouakchott include the Nouakchott Silver Market, and a splendid sandy beach. The city is quite spread out, but the town center is a good place to start exploring. The town center is home to an impressive Mosque donated to Nouakchott by Saudi Arabia. Visitors are also drawn to the lively markets by the beautiful handcrafted pieces produced by local residents.
