Svishtov

Svishtov, a port on the Danube River, is an agricultural center with a significant fishing industry. Its history dates back to Roman times. Between the 15th throught the 19th centuries it was under Turkish rule, and became an important commercial and military center known as Sistova. The cities most popular tourist sites include the 19th-century monastery, the university, and an archaeological museum.
